Sony Air-SA20PK S-Airplay

The astonishingly well-executed—and expensive—Sonos Bundle 150 has long been the premier wireless home audio system, but Sony wants a piece of the action. Enter its Air-SA20PK S-Airplay. Both manufacturers aim to make your music collection available in any room of your home unencumbered by wires. Sony's product, however, focuses on your iPod, while Sonos's concentrates on your PC's music library and subscription services. The S-Airplay ($399.95 direct) delivers three zones for music listening (two of them wireless), and features built-in speakers, all for less than half the price of the speaker-less Sonos starter bundle. The audio quality of the system is decent, but the S-Airplay is troubled by odd design decisions, unintuitive controls, and a wireless range that leaves something to be desired.
